Sometimes we can understand each other without words, but most often we convey thoughts and feelings with words. Sometimes we do it well, and sometimes our words fail us. And when that happens to us, then we build new words or, what is interesting, we use the same word to denote several terms from different areas of life. And precisely because we cannot have a separate word for every thing, feeling, occurrence in the world, those words that can have multiple meanings are precious to us. We will learn how ambiguity enriches both words and language, what words are and why they can have this feature, professionally called polysemy.
