Plant a tree, cool your city

Lecturers: Bojana Vasić, Simona Barna Grifatong

The five-day field work was designed with the aim of educating young fellow citizens about climate change and the influence of greenery on the temperature in the city. During four days, the participants would keep their diaries, and each new day we would start with critical points in the city and introduce the participants to the consequences of global warming, the impact it has on our planet, and discuss possible solutions. On the second day, each of the participants would choose a photo and explain the consequences caused by climate change. On the third day, we would visit the meteorological station, where our researchers would describe the temperature measurement procedure in detail. After that, several different locations in the city would be selected that would equally include green areas and parts of the city that are without greenery in order to measure temperatures at those locations. It is necessary to measure the temperature at one location several times during the day. On the fourth day, we collect the obtained results and together make a graph of the daily temperature measured at different locations in the city. We compare them with the official temperature, and then we design video material for our fellow citizens and present them at the Night of Researchers. An indispensable part of our terrain is the ultimate action - planting a few seedlings and sending a message to all fellow citizens about the importance of greenery in the fight against global warming and climate change.
