In the Center of Exceptional Values for the Conversion of Light Energy - CONVERSE, in the Institute for Nuclear Sciences in Vinča, an Institute of National Importance for the Republic of Serbia, University of Belgrade, a team of experts led by Dr. Bojana Milićević is working on a project called "LED technology based on the EU3+ bismuth-sensitized luminescence for cost-effective indoor plant growth - LEDtech-GROW", develops modern and efficient LED lighting for growing plants as a key solution for successful future indoor production. The LEDtech-GROW project was financed by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia within the Program for excellent projects of young researchers and scientists in the early career phase - PROMIS 2023.
In the context of global urbanization, the key to long-term agricultural development is more efficient use of arable land, labor and modern technology. The LEDtech-GROW project brings innovations in the field of LED technology, which are specially adapted to the needs of plants. LEDtech-GROW plans to develop inorganic materials that will efficiently convert electricity into light energy that is specific for photosynthetic processes in plants, which is different from the light needed for general lighting.
